USACO Preparation: C++ Foundations is designed for students who want to build a strong C++ foundation for future USACO training. We teach all USACO courses in C++, the de-facto language for serious competitive programming. Many students come from Python or Java backgrounds and may feel a little intimidated by C++, while others may have no programming experience at all. This course is created to help both groups start from the beginning and learn C++ in a structured, approachable way.
This course has 5 lessons, and each lesson lasts 2 hours. The lessons are hands-on, and students will write code during class. In addition to core beginner topics such as input/output, variables, conditionals, loops, arrays, strings, functions, and recursion, this course also goes beyond a typical introductory C++ class by introducing more problem-solving practice and selected higher-level C++ topics that prepare students for later USACO coursework. After each lesson, homework will be assigned to help students strengthen and consolidate what they learned.
We strongly recommend this course for students who are planning to join our USACO training program, especially those preparing for Bronze and Silver level study. It is an excellent starting point for students who want to gain confidence in C++ before moving on to more advanced algorithm training.
